This rotary encoder can count angular rotation and detect clockwise & counterclockwise rotation. Unlike a potentiometer, it has no end point; so it can be rotated continuously. It also has a built-in push button which is activated by pressing the encoder downwards.
Application: user menu navigation system, voltage/current set knob of power electronics circuits etc.
